Gary leads all aspects of TIR’s acquisition sourcing and management functions, matching clients’ investment objectives with appropriate opportunities and then directing purchase negotiations and closing logistics. He was a founding member of TIR and has 34 years of senior management experience in the timberland investment arena.
Prior to helping found TIR, Gary held positions of increasing responsibility for both acquisitions and forest management in both the forest investment and forest industry sectors. This experience included 13 years as a managing forester at Champion International as well as 17 years with timberland investment management organizations (TIMOs), including Wachovia and TimberVest where he served as manager of acquisitions. During his career, Gary has successfully managed more than 60 timberland acquisitions. He has acquired almost 700,000 acres in 20 states and has evaluated lands in 26 states and in Latin America and Eastern Europe on behalf of institutional investment clients. He is recognized and respected in the marketplace for his capacity to identify acquisition opportunities that offer enhanced return potential because of market and operational inefficiencies and this unique expertise has played a key role in TIR’s performance success to date. Gary is a registered forester and a graduate of North Carolina State University where he received BS degrees in both forest management and wildlife biology. He also earned an MBA at the University of North Florida and is a member of the Society of American Foresters and a licensed forester in several states.
